1. Social Media and Speaker Policy

1.1 Purpose

To protect the reputation, security, and integrity of The Boating Association while supporting appropriate public engagement.

1.2 Scope

Applies to:

  • Staff and volunteers
  • Trustees
  • Anyone representing the organisation publicly

1.3 Social Media Use

Individuals must:

  • Avoid posting content that could harm the organisation’s reputation
  • Not share confidential or sensitive information
  • Clearly distinguish personal views from those of the charity
  • Be respectful and professional at all times

1.4 Official Communications

Only authorised individuals may:

  • Post on official social media accounts
  • Issue public statements on behalf of the organisation

1.5 Public Speaking and Events

When speaking publicly on behalf of the organisation:

  • Approval must be obtained in advance
  • Messaging should align with the organisation’s values and policies
  • Sensitive topics must be handled carefully

1.6 Safeguarding and Security

  • No personal data or images should be shared without consent
  • Location or activity details that may pose a risk should not be disclosed

1.7 Breach of Policy

Failure to comply may result in:

  • Withdrawal of responsibilities
  • Disciplinary action where appropriate

1.8 Policy Review
All policies will be reviewed annually or as required to ensure they remain effective and compliant with relevant regulations.
