1. Whistleblowing Policy

1.1 Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to encourage and enable staff and volunteers to report concerns about wrongdoing in a safe and responsible manner. The Boating Association is committed to transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct.

1.2 Scope

This policy applies to all staff, volunteers, trustees, and contractors working with or on behalf of the charity.

1.3 What is Whistleblowing?

Whistleblowing involves reporting concerns such as:

  • Illegal activity or fraud
  • Health and safety risks
  • Environmental damage
  • Safeguarding concerns
  • Misuse of charity funds
  • Breach of policies or ethical standards

1.4 Protection for Whistleblowers

The Boating Association:

  • Will not tolerate harassment or victimisation of whistleblowers
  • Will treat all reports confidentially where possible
  • Allows concerns to be raised anonymously (though this may limit investigation)

1.5 Reporting Procedure

Concerns should be raised:

  1. First, with a line manager or supervisor
  2. If inappropriate, directly to a trustee or designated safeguarding lead
  1. In serious cases, external authorities may be contacted

1.6 Investigation

All concerns will be:

  • Taken seriously
  • Investigated promptly and fairly
  • Handled with discretion

1.7 Outcome

Where wrongdoing is confirmed, appropriate action will be taken, which may include disciplinary procedures or reporting to relevant authorities.

1.8 Policy Review
All policies will be reviewed annually or as required to ensure they remain effective and compliant with relevant regulations.
